The complete absence of a head means that the "seat" for the camera is rigidly fixed to the stand and does not provide rotations or tilts. This feature is often found in monopods and shoulder tripods (see "Type") — in them the camera can be directed by rotating / tilting the entire structure. Separate desktop models are also made "headless" — while in flexible tripods you can change the position of the camera due to the deformation of the legs.
